Cedric Friday

Biography:

I started painting about 20 years ago and I got used to it. It became a hobby, everywhere I go walkabout I look for driftwood or a flat rock so that I can draw on. Most of all I like painting on bark (bark painting like the old bama way).

For the last few years I have been doing acrylic on canvas, but since completing the Cert III in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Cultural Art, I have really enjoyed the carving on Lino and etching

Over the years I have sold my paintings through the Bana Yarralji Ranger Base at Shipton’s Flat where we have a lot of overseas visitors and students. I have also mentored a lot of students in Traditional painting and storytelling.

Today I’m here at the Bana Yirriji Arts Centre still doing art work and learning from the other art gang mob.
