Doreen Creek

Biography:

I was born in Old Lockhart on Cape York. My mother’s people came from the Kuku Nyungkal clan of the Shipton Flat/Helenvale area. My father belonged to the Kaanju tribe of Coen.

I went school at Miallo Rocky Point and Mossman High School and furthered my education at Kangaroo Point Business College in Brisbane.

Since 2006 I have been making rainforest jewellery using nuts, seeds & shells found locally which I love collecting. Aboriginal and Islander colours can be seen in my work.

My bracelets, necklaces, earrings and other items can be found at the Umi Arts stall at the Cairns Esplanade markets and at the Mossman markets. I also love painting and printing textiles.  I am now teaching art and craft with my sisters to other members of my family and friends as well as at the art centre.
