Maurice Gibson

Biography:

My family tribal clan group Nyungkul which runs from Shipton flat, kings plain, and Helenvale which is about 20 minutes drive north of Wujal Wujal in Far North Queensland.

My totem from dad’s side is Bindimu which means black snake from the rainforest. I was born in Cairns and raised in Wujal Wujal by my aunty Sheryl Nandy. When I was 15 she sent me to boarding school down south. I came back home when I was 18 years old.

I have been painting ever since I was 5 years old. I  use to sit and watch my grandfather  Eddie Bloomfield from Mossman Gorge community who was a good artist. He use to paint landscapes but today my painting are all animals from my clan group Nyungkul.

My grandfather is the reason why I still paint today.
